Shalom and Welcome To Everyone Who Is New To The Group!

Mishpatim! - This coming Shabbat, Friday February 17, 2012, the Torah portion will be Parashat Mishpatim, which extends from Exodus 21:1 - 24:18.  The Haftarah reading is Jeremiah 34:8-22 and 33:25-26.  You can download the lesson as a PDF file, WORD file or as a PDF Children's Lesson.  It's been a long time since I've written a short article and I really feel moved to write about the topic known as "The Sacred Name".  I'm sure many of you have wondered if we need to speak "The Sacred Name" or not and hopefully, this will give you some guidance.  I'm looking forward to getting that to you soon and pray that Adonai will lead me in my thoughts.  May all of you have a wonderful Shabbat!

Parshas Terumah
Put the Torah in Your Terumah
God told Moshe, “Tell the Children of Israel that anyone who desires to bring to Me an elevated-offering should do so.” (Shemos 23:12)

The Ba'al Haturim points out an interesting gematria that I certainly would never have through of myself. He explains that the word terumah — elevated offering — is comprised of the word Torah, and the letter Mem, representing the 40 days that Moshe Rabbeinu was on Har Sinai receiving Torah. Hence, the ultimate elevated offering: The Learning and performance of Torah. I’d like to adapt this explanation in a way to explain, in current terms, an ancient idea: yiddishe nachas.
