Yechezkel 37:15

This week's haftorah is devoted to the Jewish nation's future unification. it opens with Hashem instructing the Prophet Yechezkel to take two pieces of wood and inscribe them with names of the Jewish kingdoms, Yehuda and Yosef. Hashem then said, "Bring them near one another to appear as one and they shall unite in your hands." Radak interprets this to mean that Yechezkel should hold the pieces alongside each other and they will miraculously unite into one solid piece of wood.

He let's them know that our wonderful Creator has a plan for each of us and there is never a reason to be bitter or upset at someone else. It is all part of His divine plan. This week's Torah Parashah is from Genesis 44:18-47:27.

Shalom v'Chag Chanukah Sameach!

During this week of Chanukah, we always read this particular drama-filled story about Yosef and his brothers as they must go to Egypt to buy grain during the famine.   Interesting isn't it, that the name of the reading, Miketz, means "in the end."  A bit of meditating easily takes us to an "in the end" scenario where somewhat of a repeat of the events of Chanukah occur.  How does this fit in with our Torah story?  We know that there will also be a famine in the end times, but this time it will be a famine "of hearing the words of Yah."

MEHADRIN MIN HAMEHADRIN (I)

"Among those extraordinary individuals whose every step is weighed "B'Shekel haKodesh" (lit. "with a holy weight" - meaning, always considered against the measure of holiness which will be brought into the world as a result), to the point where not only their family lives exude Godly holiness but also their personal lives, there are found saintly people whose entire focus in their lives is not for their own benefit - even spiritual (i.e. the World to Come), rather their entire desire is to bring about God's will in His world.

"You Delivered the Many into the Hands of the Few"

(from the Chanuka liturgy)
Kislev 27, 5772/December 22, 2011

The three most oft-asked questions we receive at the Temple Institute are: "Have you begun building the Holy Temple? How long will it take to build? and when will the Holy Temple be completed?" The answer to the first question is yes, for the past twenty five years the Temple Institute has been preparing sacred vessels to be used in the rebuilt Holy Temple. Maimonides teaches us that the construction of any Temple-necessary vessel is part and parcel of constructing the Holy Temple itself. The answer to the second and third question is "No, we do not know how long the construction will take or when it will be completed."

Mitzvat Hanukkah (II)
Dear Haverim,

Last year, Dr. Avi Shmidman and I composed a "final stanza" for Ma'oz Tzur, adding the momentous miracle of Statehood to the praise - you can see the text along with footnotes at :https://sites.google.com/site/shmidman/Home/MaozTzur-thefinalstanza.pdf

Please include it in your Hanukkah celebration as we thank God for the miracles He has performed for us "Bayamim haHeim uvaZ'man HaZeh"

Enjoy and Hag Urim Sameach,

Yitzchak Etshalom
