Dear The Watchmen from Israel

The command to “Count the Omer” for 50 days to come to the appointed time of Shavuot is a time of spiritual preparation and expectant waiting on Abba as we “go up” to His appointed time of Shavuot, which falls out this year on Saturday Evening 11th  June through Sunday 12th June.

We see this message also reflected in the Apostles experience recorded in book of Acts

Acts 1:4  And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me.

The question of how we should wait and prepare is not specifically defined in the scriptures, but from the Apostles experience we can identify certain principles:

  1. They had assembled and participated together in the Passover and had consciously removed all “leaven” from their lives as commanded by Abba.
  2. They had experienced the crucifixion of Yahoshua and witnessed his fulfilment of the biblical role of the promised Passover lamb who takes away the sin of the nation of Israel.
  3. Whilst somewhat bewildered in their own understanding concerning what would befall them in the days ahead (they were expecting the messianic kingdom to begin at that time – Acts 1:6), they were commanded by the resurrected Messiah to wait for the promise of the Father which would be realised at the Feast of Shavuot.
As we look back and reflect on those historic biblical events, we of the last generation have also experienced a high call to repent back to hearing the commandments of YHVH in preparation for the return of Messiah and the birth of Zion.  Over the past 20 years, the call back to the Hebraic roots of the faith has drawn us to learn and participate in the keeping of YHVH’s appointed times of worship where we meet with Him in Spirit and in Truth.  In rediscovering and learning about the appointed times we find that that we – the last generation – just like the Apostles, are also are being called at this time to “wait for the promise of the Father” which is the great redemption of the two Houses of Israel, and the great return of Jacob through a second exodus back to the land of Zion where the King of Kings will rule over His people for the next millennium.

The Prophetic Call Of Hosea To The Last Generation

When I first began to study the Hebraic roots of the faith, more than a decade ago, I approached the counting of the Omer without much understanding  and at its most basic level – a simple counting of days to identify when the Feast of Shavuot would fall out. Today, as Abba has revealed more understanding of the greater prophetic narrative of the scriptures and the part that we are being we are called to, we find that the prophet Hosea calls out to the last days generation to come before YHVH with specific intercession prayer for the restoration (the cleansing from iniquity) and the redemption of Jacob from His enemies. Through the prophet Hosea, Abba instructs the last days saints to intercede before Him with “Words” that call for the taking away of Jacob’s iniquity, which at its core is Jacob’s historical rebellion against YHVH’s government.

Hosea 14:2 Take with you WORDS, and turn to YHVH: say unto him, Take away all iniquity, and receive us graciously: so will we render the calves of our lips.

We who have been called to know Yahoshua Messiah both as our Redeemer and to keep the commandments of YHVH,  know that from the declaration of the scripture, it is only He who takes all iniquity away from Jacob and saves Jacob, through His ministry to each one individually as the Passover Lamb AND nationally for Jacob as the Day of Atonement sin offering which is made up of the two goats, one for the cleasning of the altar from the uncleanness of Israel and the other for the carrying away of national Israel’s iniquity into the unihabitable place.

It is Yahoshua Messiah alone, “Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.” (Titus 2:14)

Don't enter temptation

As we have been called to follow our great Shepherd, so in these last days He instructs the last generation to  Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.” (Matthew 26:41)

As we come out of the spiritual purification of the seven days of unleavened bread, where we have been called to spiritually examined ourselves and to purge out the leaven in us by Abba’s convicting Word, we are now called to continue to “count” the days to a specially appointed meeting with Him – the feast of Shavuot. Our counting of days is clearly a description of a spiritual journey of ascending to His holy mountain, and our meeting with Him at His Feast of Shavuot.

The time of the counting of the Omer is indeed such a time of watching and praying that we fall not into temptation during this time. We must make every effort to be spiritually clean before Him as we wait to ascend.  The counting of the Omer is clearly very significant, not that we just count the days, but that we continue on our journey of spiritual purification and do not fall into temptation, so that we can be ready to enter into His presence in a condition that He will find us to be acceptable, “clean” (or “holy”) and so he will welcome us into His presence.

After having received the gift of the Passover Lamb which cleansed us fro sin, to then not undertake His commandment to count the omer (Lev 23:15-16) with serious and true spiritual intent would be to grieve Abba’s Spirit, since He is calling His people and desires to meet in fellowship with us at His specific appointed time, because He loves His people. He is a holy Eloheem and we know that light cannot fellowship with darkness. Before the Passover was a time of darkness. Through the Passover sacrifice, He brought us into His marvellous light. He required of us to put all leaven out of our lives as His set apart people, who will then do our part in diligently waiting for Him through the 50 days to Shavuot as He requires.

Luke 21:36 Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.

How can we help ourselves complete the count?

So how can we to do this? Watching, praying and waiting for this period of 50 days is not an easy task, for the “the flesh is weak” . How easily we can fall asleep at times along the way because of the many demands of our busy days and we loose sight of the day count from time to time, only re-awakening to the count when we have been gently convicted to do so by His quite voice. I know this struggle from my own personal experience of practicing the counting the Omer in past years.

However with each year I have come to understand increasingly more about the spiritual significance of the counting the Omer.  As the Day of Redemption approaches I am persuaded that the counting of the Omer commandment will burn deeper and deeper into our spirit and hearts as Abba calls out to Jacob to repentance in the last days.  Each successive year thus far, I have been convicted to undertake the counting of the Omer more deliberately and with greater spiritual devotion, intent and revealed understanding. In recent years I began the practice reading a Psalm each day for prayer and meditation for each day of the count, beginning with Psalm 1 through 50, for each of the 50 days of the Omer count. This practice has been very worthwhile.

Reading the Psalms in this way helped in two ways:
1.      A planned schedule helped keep me on task to the counting of the 50 days.
2.      I discovered that the Psalms also provided me with specific meaningful spiritual prayers of prophetic “WORDS for both personal prayer and intercessory prophetic prayer for the birth of Zion. The Psalms can be read at both a personal level of identification and at a personified congregational level of the whole exiled house of Jacob, and can be presented in prayer before Abba as one is convicted to pray. Both levels are very significant as they describe the very spiritual struggles and needs for personal and national repentance, as well as giving non-accidental, specific WORDS of intercession for the prophetic restoration of the Two houses of Israel. Using the Psalms, we can pray “His Words” that have been laid in His Word by His inspiration!

As you know from my previous missives, I am strongly persuaded that this biblical year of 2011 /2012 (the second year of the significant set of seven years that will ultimately result in the restoration of Jacob) is very significant in that the Torah teaches us that it is in the second year that YHVH operationalised His Tabernacle in the wilderness. We know from scripture that it is YHVH’s faithful remnant , who have the tesimony of yahoshua and keep YHVH's commandments (rev 12:17), and who are yet in exile, are those described as being the tabernacle of YHVH in the wilderness.

1Co 3:16 Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?

During this Passover season, as we came to the time of Unleavened Bread, my good wife and I have been specifically convicted by the instructions of Psalm 55:17

"Evening, and morning, and at noon, will I pray, and cry aloud: and he shall hear my voice".

This year our family has been convicted that for the Counting of the Omer this time, Abba is calling us to prayer in the manner that described both David and Daniel prayed - three times a day, and that He will hear our voice.

An "evening, morning and noon" schedule:

Consequently we have developed a schedule of Psalm reading / prayers using all the Psalms for an evening, morning and noon prayer offering for each of the 50 days of the counting. My good wife, being the mathematician she is, quickly saw that in total there are 150 Psalms, and there are 50 days of the Omer count and so reading and praying through 3 Psalms each day works well for the evening, morning and noon periods, and will fit perfectly into the 50 day count preparation for Shavuot.

Following this schedule will help us to stay spiritually awake and on track, and we will have prayed through each and every Psalm by the arrival of Feast of Shavuot. I am persuaded that we need to make a greater effort in our spiritual preparation for Shavuot this year, our appointed meeting time with Abba and we are to expect His promise.

I am sure you have been convicted to make your own preparations, but I felt led to share this schedule with you as you may find this schedule of Psalms and prayer useful. Although the counting of the Omer has already begun, I have  made the schedule available on the website should you be interested to use it in your walk to Shavuot this year when we as a redeemed nation we meet with Abba YHVH.

The schedule can be downloaded from: www.inthatday.net/892376/CountingOmer2011.pdf

May YHVH keep you and bless you in Yahoshua His Redeemer (Isaiah 44:6) at this time,

Rob
