Parshas Pekudei The Ramban's Message Ramban (Rabbi Moshe ben Nachman, 13th century Barcelona) points out that the conclusion of the book of Shemot, with its detailed recording of the construction and expenditures involved in the completion of the Mishkan/Tabernacle, places the Jewish people as a whole at the level of spirituality that was present in the homes of our patriarchs and matriarchs at the conclusion of the previous book of Bereshith.

Parshas Pekudei A House of Hearts If we were to count up all the verses in the Torah that describe the construction of the Mishkan in minute detail, beginning with Parashas Terumah and culminating with this week’s Torah portion, the number would reach into the hundreds. Why does the Torah pay such extraordinary attention to the construction of a building that existed only in Biblical times and was eventually replaced by the Temple, which was of totally different dimensions? What message does this painstaking description convey to us today?

This is the week that we read of the completion of the Tabernacle.  This is also the week that our family set as a goal for finishing the house we’ve been building for our daughter, son-in-law and their three small children.  We worked with all our strength, but we did not accomplish our goal.  Moshe did, however!  Shemot 40:17 says that “in the first month, in the second year, on the first of the month, the Tabernacle was raised up.”  Working together as a community and under the authority of the Almighty, they met HIS goal date. 

I am passing along a 60 year old Jewish commentary from SichosinEnglish.org that I enjoyed this week.  It is easy to parallel this teaching with what we understand to be the community of believers, made up of its various individuals….

The Final Return Conference      Due to situations beyond our control, we are unable to have the Final Return Conference in Denver this June. i apologize greatly for this.  There was nothing we could do.
