Introduction before our Prayer 31-10-2010

Before you start to pray please stand-still, where we are in history………… .

Some saw the videos and some not but I think it is still good to see them.

Sarah our ‘mother’ in believes is also yours, Ephraim-Israel. She saw in the future when she said:

Gen 21:9-12  And Sarah saw the son of Haḡar the Mitsrite, whom she had borne to Aḇraham, mocking.
10                So she said to Aḇraham, “Drive out this female servant and her son, for the son of this female servant shall not inherit with my son, with Yitsḥaq.”
11  And the matter was very evil in the eyes of Aḇraham because of his son.
12  But Elohim said to Aḇraham, “Let it not be evil in your eyes because of the boy and because of your female servant. Whatever Sarah has said to you, listen to her voice, for in Yitsḥaq your seed is called.

Back in the past I studied in Schem (Nablus).  One night there was a festival under the Arabic’s in Schem. They celebrated the ‘Korban’ of Ismael. We Jews think back that Abraham brought Yitshak as a Korban. When you met Arabic’s here in Israel, as a Jew you recognize jealousy in their eyes….. .

When you study The Word of YHWH the scriptures, than we can learn who ‘Yishmael’ is nowadays……. .
A good teaching about this subject you can find by Sukkat David Ministries. Yishmael, The Weapon of Chastisement of The End Times’ They have it in Dutch-Nederlands and English I just read the Dutch one. This book is a blessing! A must read if you can afford it or buy it as a gift for someone who cannot buy it.
Gal 4:23-31  But he who was of the female servant was born according to the flesh, and he of the free woman through promise.
24  This is allegorical, for these are the two covenants: one indeed from Mount Sinai which brings forth slavery, which is Haḡar,
25  for this Haḡar is Mount Sinai in Araḇia, and corresponds to Yerushalayim which now is, and is in slavery with her children.
26  But the Yerushalayim above is free, which is the mother of us all.
27  For it has been written, “Rejoice, O barren, you who do not bear! Break forth and shout, you who do not have birth pains! For the deserted one has many more children than she who has a husband.”
28  And we, brothers, as Yitsḥaq was, are children of promise.
29  But, as he who was born according to the flesh then persecuted him born according to the Spirit, so also now.
30  But what does the Scripture say? “Cast out the female servant and her son, for the son of the female servant shall by no means be heir with the son of the free woman.”
31  Therefore, brothers, we are not children of the female servant but of the free woman.
So, if you are ‘children of the free woman’ than you bare the blessing that Abraham gave to Yitshak. Yishmael didn’t receive that blessing. That is why he hates us. And why he likes to kill all the Jews.
Please read the story about Yishmael and Esau in Scripture?

Please read and pray about the meeting of Yaʽaqoḇ and Ěsaw when Ya’aqob came out of his galut. (His dispersion from Eretz Israel)

Gen 32:1-32  And Yaʽaqoḇ went on his way, and the messengers of Elohim met him.
2  And when Yaʽaqoḇ saw them, he said, “This is the camp of Elohim.” And he called the name of that place Maḥanayim.
3  And Yaʽaqoḇ sent messengers before him to Ěsaw his brother in the land of Sĕʽir, the field of Eḏom
4  and he commanded them, saying, “Say this to my master Ěsaw, ‘Your servant Yaʽaqoḇ said this, “I have sojourned with Laḇan and stayed there until now.
5  “And I have bulls, and donkeys, flocks, and male and female servants. And I have sent to inform my master, to find favour in your eyes.” ’ ”
6  So the messengers returned to Yaʽaqoḇ, saying, “We came to your brother Ěsaw, and he also is coming to meet you, and four hundred men with him.”
7  And Yaʽaqoḇ was greatly afraid and distressed. So he divided the people that were with him, and the flocks and herds and camels, into two groups,
8  and he said, “If Ěsaw comes to the one group and attacks it, then the other group which is left shall escape.”
9  And Yaʽaqoḇ said, “O Elohim of my father Aḇraham and Elohim of my father Yitsḥaq, יהוה who said to me, ‘Return to your land and to your relatives, and I do good to you,’
10  “I do not deserve the least of all the kind acts and all the truth which You have shown Your servant, for I passed over this Yardĕn with my staff, and now I have become two groups.
11  “Deliver me, I pray, from the hand of my brother, from the hand of Ěsaw, for I fear him, lest he come and shall smite me and the mother with the children.
12  “For You said, ‘I shall certainly do good to you, and shall make your seed as the sand of the sea, which are too numerous to count.’ ”
13  And he spent the night there, and took what came to his hand as a present for Ěsaw his brother –
14  two hundred female goats and twenty male goats, two hundred ewes and twenty rams,
15  thirty milk camels with their colts, forty cows and ten bulls, twenty female donkeys and ten foals.
16  And he gave into the hand of his servants, every drove by itself, and said to his servants, “Pass over before me, and put some distance between drove and drove.”
17  And he commanded the first one, saying, “When Ěsaw my brother meets you and asks you, saying, ‘To whom do you belong, and where are you going? And whose are these in front of you?’
18  then you shall say, ‘They are your servant Yaʽaqoḇ’s. It is a present sent to my master Ěsaw. And see, he also is behind us.’ ”
19  So he commanded the second, and the third, and all who followed the droves, saying, “Speak to Ěsaw this same word when you find him,
20  and you shall say, ‘Also look, your servant Yaʽaqoḇ is behind us.’ ” For he said, “Let me appease him with the present that goes before me, and after that see his face. He might accept me.”
21  And the present passed over before him, but he himself spent the night in the camp.
22  And he rose up that night and took his two wives, and his two female servants, and his eleven sons, and passed over the ford of Yabboq.
23  And he took them and sent them over the stream, and sent over what he had.
24  And Yaʽaqoḇ was left alone. And a Man wrestled with him until the breaking of day.
25  And when He saw that He did not overcome him, He touched the socket of his hip. And the socket of Yaʽaqoḇ’s hip was dislocated as He wrestled with him.
26  And He said, “Let Me go, for the day breaks.” But he said, “I am not letting You go until You have blessed me!”
27  So He asked him, “What is your name?” And he said, “Yaʽaqoḇ.”
28  And He said, “Your name is no longer called Yaʽaqoḇ, but Yisra’ĕl1, because you have striven with Elohim and with men, and have overcome.” Footnote: 1Yisra’ĕl means “to strive with Ěl, to overcome with Ěl, (then) to rule with Ěl”
29  And Yaʽaqoḇ asked Him, saying, “Please let me know Your Name.” And He said, “Why do you ask about My Name?” And He blessed him there.
30  And Yaʽaqoḇ called the name of the place Peni’ĕl, “For I have seen Elohim face to face, and my life is preserved.”
31  And the sun rose on him as he passed over Penu’ĕl, and he limped on his hip.
32  That is why the children of Yisra’ĕl to this day do not eat the sinew of the hip, which is on the socket of the thigh, because He touched the socket of the thigh of Yaʽaqoḇ, in the sinew of the hip.

Ephraim do you eat ‘the sinew of the hip’ or not and think back about this meeting? Ya’aqob Avinu Hu!
Ephraim are you coming out? And shall your name be changed in Israel? With the Chastisement of Esaw what Abba YHWH is sending to us? Please come and do Teshuavah together with us in The Land. That we Jews may see the ‘tsiyunim’….. .

Jer 31:21  “Set up signposts (ציניםH6725 ), make landmarks; set your heart toward the highway, the way in which you went. Turn back, O maiden of Yisra’ĕl, turn back to these cities of yours!

ציניםH6725
ציוּן
tsı̂yûn
tsee-yoon'
From the same as H6723 in the sense of conspicuousness (compare H5329); a monumental or guiding pillar: - sign, title, way mark. (Strong)

O maiden of Israel ‘put-on’ these ‘tsiyunim’ and come back.
Maybe not how we Jews do it, but there should be not so much different. We put a ‘strong-fence’ around these ‘tsiyunim’, maybe a double fence. Because we don’t like to come to the same level of chattath (sins), as where we where when we loosed our Temple. Did we have a choice? Without ……..
We did so much our best to fulfill them but…….. Many gave up. Others became hypocrites. But still there are many lovers of Torah in Judaism. Please look at them. Try to be together with us. And let we learn together.

That may come in fulfillment:

Oba 1:17-18  “But on Mount Tsiyon there shall be an escape1, and they shall be set-apart. And the house of Yaʽaqoḇ shall possess their possessions. Footnote: 1Isa. 4:2-3, Joel 2:32, Rev. 14:1.
18     “And the house of Yaʽaqoḇ shall be a fire, and the house of Yosĕph (Ephraim) a flame, but the house of Ěsaw for stubble. And they shall burn among them and they shall consume them, so that no survivor is left of the house of Ěsaw.” For יהוה has spoken.

Eretz Israel is not only for the Jews but for the whole House of Israel. We Jews cannot overcome the Islam alone but Israel can in His ‘tsiyunim’….. .

Do you understand where I’m talking about?

When He Saw the Nose Ring
This week's Torah portion has such a sad beginning. It is called "Sarah's Life," but is really about her death. Sarah and Abraham had seen many things in their lives. There is no doubt that Sarah did not just live. She really lived. Her life had been full of challenges. Just imagine what it must have been like to follow Abraham out of the comfort of the known and into the unknown. Through good times and bad, through successes and failures, Abraham had been one real adventurer. They walked with purpose toward a higher calling, always looking for that city whose builder and maker was Elohim.
After Sarah's burial and the time of mourning, it was time for Abraham to get on with life. After all, he is a young man, still in his early hundreds! His first task is to find a bride for his son Isaac. He sends his servant back to his family's village with specific instructions regarding this task. This week we read the story of the success of this journey and the new wife for Isaac. We also are introduced to a new person in the story. His name is Laban.
The words used to introduce Laban to us should not go unnoticed. Genesis 24:29 says, "When he saw the nose-ring, and the bracelets on his sister's wrists . . ." These words give us a clue into just what kind of man Laban is and what his motivation is in life. Laban had probably never seen four ounces of gold before, as this stranger had just given his sister. It appears that Laban's real motivation in life is Laban. He is concerned not about his sister, but about what he can get out of the deal. This will be proven further as we continue to meet him in the Book of Genesis. Laban is concerned about building his own kingdom, which is in direct contrast to Abraham, who is always concerned about building Yah's Kingdom.
This attitude of Laban is the same attitude we see Yeshua coming against with the scribes and the Pharisees. As we read through the chapters of Matthew this week, you can feel the frustration Yeshua must have felt. What is wrong with these people? They know the scriptures! They have been teaching of the coming Messiah! They know He will do the miracles Yeshua is doing. What is the problem?
The answer is really very simple. They had the same attitude as Laban. They were out for themselves. The religious leaders of the day had forgotten, if they ever knew in the first place, that they were placed in the positions of leadership by Yah, to build His Kingdom, not theirs. They began to look at the gold of this temporary world instead to the incorruptible gold of the Kingdom to come. Their greed for power and temporary riches would blind them to the point that they would actually crucify the very One they should have been worshipping and leading people to.
Anyone who has heard my teaching long has heard me my favorite quote from Will Rogers, "People change, but not much." (I still think this should have been in the Book of Proverbs.) From the time of Laban until the time of Yeshua, until today, people have changed, but not much. Many so-called religious people to this day are still looking to build the wrong kingdom. Too many are looking to the gold of the nose ring instead of to the preparation of the bride.
It is estimated that 25,000 people per month are leaving Christian churches. Why is this? Is it possibly because organized Christianity has become a religion about gold nose rings and man's kingdoms instead of building His Kingdom? To be fair, I dare say that much of the Messianic Movement has also adopted this same philosophy today. It has also fallen into the same trap of bigger is better, of personalities and funding a machine.
Each of us needs to examine our motives from time to time. We each need to ask ourselves why we do what we do. Do we serve others, regardless of what it costs us or what they can contribute? Do we buy expensive clothes to impress, to enhance our image? Could we dress just as well less expensively, and give the difference to the needy? Is filet mignon really better for us than chicken? What are our motives regarding "witnessing?" Is it for another notch in our spiritual holster, or because we truly care about the people and want them to know the awesome God we serve? What is our motivation regarding our lives of obedience to Torah? Yes, even this can be perverted into something about ourselves. Instead of living Torah out of love for Him, it can become centered in rebellion to what others are doing. We begin to live Torah to prove something instead of obedience out of love.
Let's face it, we all have the fallen nature which desires to look upon the nose rings and forget about the bride who is wearing them. In these last days, may HaShem keep us from the spirit of Laban and give us the spirit Abraham's servant possessed, a spirit of humbly knowing that life is not about us and our kingdom. Life is about Him and His Kingdom.
Shabbat Shalom,
Mike

About The Commentaries

Traditional Judaism follows a yearly Torah and Haftarah reading cycle in which the Torah (the First Five Books of Scripture) is divided into weekly portions that have an accompanying excerpt from one of the Prophetic books that relates to the theme being presented.
As Believers in Messiah Yeshua, we also include portions from the New Testament, so that we will be reading form the whole counsel of our Father's Holy Word.
Each of these portions contain several chapters. Since each parashah contains untold numbers of nuggets of truth, it is impossible for any one person to present all of the truths in one weekly volume. As we go through the annual cycle, we find new, encouraging, and inspiring bits of truth. Each commentator brings different aspects to light, and we encourage open discussion on biblical passages, and thus the views expressed are those of the author and not necessarily those of the Messianic Israel Alliance or its members and affiliates.

What is Shabbat Shalom?

Jews all over the world read a portion of the Torah, the Five Books of Moses, in the synagogue every Shabbat morning.  The cycle begins right after the Feast of Tabernacles and concludes the following year at the end of the Feast of Tabernacles.  Traditionally, Jewish families discuss the Torah portion at their Shabbat Table, bringing new insights, each year, to the same inspirational words and stories that they have been reading for years. In this weekly column, Sondra Oster Baras, CFOIC Heartland's Israel Director, shares her personal reflections on the weekly Torah portion.

Chayei Sarah (Sarah's Life)
Genesis 23:1 - 25:18

This week's Torah reading opens with the death of Sarah, the wife of Abraham, in Hebron. (Genesis 23). Abraham mourns his wife and then immediately goes about the business of burying her. He approaches the Hittites, the native residents of Hebron, and identifies himself as a stranger and resident among them, a foreign resident in modern terms. He asks to purchase a piece of land to bury his wife. The Hittites, recognizing Abraham as an important man, offer to allow him to bury his wife in their land, for free. Abraham refuses their offer, however, and insists on purchasing the land at its full price. In fact, he knows exactly which piece of land he wants - the Cave of Machpela and its accompanying field. The purchase is a public affair, carried out at the gates to the city, in the presence of the Hittites.

The transaction is spelled out in great detail, with special emphasis placed on certain words and phrases. In verse 2, we learn that Sarah dies in "Kiryat Arba, that is Hebron in the Land of Canaan." In verse 17, the transaction is sealed and the location of the field and cave are spelled out: "the field of Ephron which is in the Machpela which is before Mamreh, the field and the cave which is in it and every tree which is in its surrounding borders." In verse 19, the location is spelled out again: "the cave of the field of Machpela before Mamre which is Hebron in the Land of Canaan." It is as if Scripture wants to make sure we realize that Kiryat Arba and Mamre are synonyms for Hebron and that this is in the Land of Canaan. The landmark is so important and its geography is so important - lest we forget!!

Another emphasis in this story is on the money that changes hands: Abraham insists on paying the "full price." (Verse 8). In verse 13, Abraham repeats the fact that he is giving money for the purchase. In verse 16, Abraham transfers "four hundred shekels of silver, current money with the merchant."

It is almost as if Abraham knows that he had better make sure this transfer is done properly, according to the books, or the land will be taken from him. And the way Scripture records it, it is as if G-d wants to make sure we understand exactly where this purchase is - in Hebron, in the Land of Canaan. There is no mistaking it - this land was purchased by our forefather as a family burial plot. It is ours!

Isn't it amazing, therefore, that one of the most disputed places in Israel today is Hebron. Even as hundreds of Jews live in the old city of Hebron, and thousands of Jews live nearby in Kiryat Arba, and tens of thousands live in the surrounding hills of Judea, world opinion says that Hebron belongs to the Arabs. So much for world opinion.

For many years now, a wonderful tradition has developed in Hebron on the Shabbat when we read this Torah portion. Jews from all over Israel converge upon Hebron for this Shabbat. Every home in Kiryat Arba and Jewish Hebron opens its doors to friends and relatives. Teen-agers come from all over the country and sleep on the floors of schools and other public buildings. Shabbat meals are great gatherings and logistical nightmares. No one knows how everyone fits in, but somehow they do. On Shabbat morning, guests and residents alike stream to the Machpela Cave and there, on the very spot where Abraham buried his wife Sarah, the very place which Abraham purchased thousands of years ago, they read this chapter and praise G-d for His bounty. This Shabbat is Shabbat Hebron!
Shabbat Shalom from Samaria,
