Message 1-8-11 Bo-Enter Exodus 10:1-13:16 Jeremiah 46:13-28 Introduction The tension between free will and determinism is a theme that runs throughout biblical literature, and it is nowhere more adroitly foregrounded than in the story of the plagues. What do the commentators tell us about Pharaoh’s hardened heart? Haftarah: Jeremiah, from whose prophecies this haftarah is taken, was one of those Israelites who survived the Babylonian exile living in Egypt. In this haftarah, he preaches powerfully against the Egyptians, who he predicts will be punished by God as they were in the days of Moses: “Fair Egypt will be shamed…Be not dismayed, O Israel,/I will deliver you from far away,/Your folk from their land of captivity.”   Shalom Chaverim!
