About The Commentaries

Traditional Judaism follows a yearly Torah and Haftarah reading cycle in which the Torah (the First Five Books of Scripture) is divided into weekly portions that have an accompanying excerpt from one of the Prophetic books that relates to the theme being presented.
As Believers in Messiah Yeshua, we also include portions from the New Testament, so that we will be reading form the whole counsel of our Father's Holy Word.
Each of these portions contain several chapters. Since each parashah contains untold numbers of nuggets of truth, it is impossible for any one person to present all of the truths in one weekly volume. As we go through the annual cycle, we find new, encouraging, and inspiring bits of truth. Each commentator brings different aspects to light, and we encourage open discussion on biblical passages, and thus the views expressed are those of the author and not necessarily those of the Messianic Israel Alliance or its members and affiliates.

Shabbat Shalom & Pray For Rain in Israel!!!

Can we do תפילות prayers for:

CFOIC Heartland

That also through them The האור Light, רפואה The Healing and The ואהבה Love of ישועת יהוה Yeshuath YHWH may come back to הארץ The Land of Israel?

Please Pray for Israel!
Father God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, we call upon You to intervene on behalf of Your people, Israel. We humbly ask that You comfort those that mourn for their precious loved ones who are injured or have lost their lives in the midst of the raging fires.

It is You Lord God who sends help to those in distress; deliver Your Chosen from the path of the consuming blaze and lead them to complete safety. We ask that You place Your supernatural protection over those who have put their lives in danger to bring this raging fire that has come against Israel to an end.

Lord God of Israel we call upon You to protect Your land which You have given to Your people as their inheritance. It is You who controls the sun and the stars, the wind and the rain; we call upon You to bring the wind to a standstill so that this intense fire will not increase and ask You to quench its flames with Your miraculous rain just as You did for Elijah.

May the enemies of Israel be kept powerless by Your mighty hand while she is in a time of trouble for You are her Rock and her Fortress and You dwell in her palaces; Your presence surrounds Israel like a shield.

We give You thanks with grateful hearts for the miracles that You will perform on behalf of the Jewish people and the land of Israel for You are her refuge and her strength and a very present help in trouble.   Amen

What is Shabbat Shalom?

Jews all over the world read a portion of the Torah, the Five Books of Moses, in the synagogue every Shabbat morning.  The cycle begins right after the Feast of Tabernacles and concludes the following year at the end of the Feast of Tabernacles.  Traditionally, Jewish families discuss the Torah portion at their Shabbat Table, bringing new insights, each year, to the same inspirational words and stories that they have been reading for years. In this weekly column, Sondra Oster Baras, CFOIC Heartland's Israel Director, shares her personal reflections on the weekly Torah portion.
If you received this email from a friend and want Shabbat Shalom sent directly to your inbox, please use the link below to join our email list.

Miketz (The End)
Genesis 41:1 - 44:17

In this week's Torah portion, we continue the story of Joseph in Egypt. The portion begins with Joseph's rise to power, thanks to his interpretation of Pharaoh's dream. He is given full responsibility for feeding the nation and, indeed surrounding nations, during the upcoming famine. It is in this position that he meets up with his brothers, those same people who had so cruelly sold him as a slave many years earlier.

In Genesis chapter 42, verses 7-8, we are told repeatedly that Joseph recognizes his brothers but they fail to recognize him. This is easy to understand, as he is now older, dressed as royalty, speaking Egyptian, and in a position that they would never have dreamed he would be in. He also has an Egyptian name (Genesis 41:45). But Joseph recognizes his brothers and he remembers his dreams. This is clearly a reference to one of the causes of their jealousy and hatred for him as they declared on that fateful day so many years earlier -- "Behold! The dreamer is coming." (Gen. 37:19). Joseph remembers his brothers and how they had treated him, their own flesh and blood. In the story that follows, Joseph attempts to test his brothers, their loyalty to one another and their willingness to sacrifice for each other, rather than kill one another.

And Joseph is not disappointed, for clearly the brothers have learned their lesson and repented. When Joseph imprisons them all and demands that they send a representative to bring Benjamin, they do not do so. They remain in custody for three days. When he suggests that they offer one to be imprisoned and go and return with Benjamin, they immediately recognize their sin against Joseph: "For we are guilty concerning our brother in that we saw the anguish of his soul, when he pleaded before us and we would not hear, therefore is this trouble come upon us." (Gen. 42:21-22). In the end, Joseph seizes Simeon and imprisons him and the rest have no choice but to leave without him.

But Jacob refuses to let Benjamin go. However, when the famine has deepened and they are facing starvation Reuben steps forward and takes responsibility: "Slay my two sons if I bring him not back to you, deliver him (Benjamin) into my hand and I will bring him back to you." (verse 37).

Finally, when Joseph sets up Benjamin to be imprisoned by planting royal vessels in his bags, Judah stands up for Benjamin and insists on being imprisoned in his stead.

Joseph sets in motion an elaborate plan to test his brothers. He must know whether they will be willing to betray their younger brother, Benjamin, son of Rachel, his own mother, or whether they have repented their ways. Only after they have passed the test will he reveal himself to them.

Interestingly, the portion ends with verse 17 of chapter 44, just before Judah begins his moving, dramatic monologue to Joseph. The portion leaves us in great suspense -- will Joseph take mercy on his brothers or will he manipulate his position to take revenge on what they did to him years earlier. By cutting the portion at this point, by leaving us with this question, we recognize that Joseph could easily have taken either route. Not only are the brothers being tested, but Joseph is being tested as well. The fate of the Jewish people rests on this meeting between the brothers -- will it end with tears and embraces, or in irreparable division and animosity.

We, who have read the next verses, already know the answer. But sometimes it is necessary to cut the portion at that pivotal point, so that we can test ourselves, ask ourselves the question. When we reach the abyss, are we able to bridge the gap -- are we able to produce the words and the feelings necessary to bring unity and love among our people?
Shabbat Shalom from Samaria,

  THE GREATFUL LEPER FEEDBACK

healing of the ten lepers
ThenYeshuaanswered and said, "Were there not tencleansed? But the nine-where are they? Luke 17:17

Shabbat shalom dearly beloved!
Last week the USA and Americans all over the world celebrated THANKSGIVING. The purpose of this particular annual feast is to give thanks to Yah (God) for allowing the first American pioneers to settle in a place where they could freely worship Him in the Freedom of their Christian Faith. The traditional meal includes TURKEY and in Hebrew Turkey is HODU and Hodu means “Give Thanks”. So, here you find more Jewish Roots in this American-Christian tradition.
Having an annual Feast of Thanksgiving is very important, in fact the Word has a lot to say about “thanksgiving” and yet when we get busy and life becomes hard, we count our curses instead of counting our blessings!
Thank [God] in everything [no matter what the circumstances may be, be thankful and give thanks], for this is the will of God for you [who are] in Messiah Yeshua. 1 Thessalonians 5:18 AMP
The whole world seems to be “shaking” these days and in great need, especially financially. This is causing great grief and depression to many people. So, how can we battle these heavy feelings? How about Thanksgiving? How about TESTIMONIES?
And they have overcome (conquered) him by means of the blood of the Lamb and by the utterance of their testimony, for they did not love and cling to life even when faced with death. Revelation 12:11
How about rehearsing some “TESTIMONIES” of what Yah has done for you???
Some will scratch their heads and say “huh let me try to remember”. But if you get quiet for a mili-second you will find out that The Precious Holy Spirit will bring all things to your memory.
Some -times it would be even good to THANK SOME PEOPLE that have been used mightily in your life!
Yeshua was confronting the unthankfulness and consequently the Idolatry of all of Israel in Luke 17. He had healed 10 lepers but only one came back to THANK Him! Where were the other 9? And this particular one was not even in the Covenant; he was a preaching the gospelSamaritan and not a Jew!
"Was no one found who returned to giveglory to God, exceptthisforeigner?" Luke 17:18
Then He proceeded to equate thanksgiving with FAITH,
And He said to him, "Stand up and go; your faith has made you well." Luke 17:20
So, why is it that the People of the Covenant, Christians or Jews would take the blessing of healing or any blessing from Yah for granted? So much so that they don’t even bother to thank Him while the heathen thank Him all day long?
You ask any person on the streets in Israel, “Ma Shlomkha?”  “How are you”? And most of them will tell you “HaShebakh la El” or “All praise be to Elohim!” Others will say “Barukh Hashem” may His Name be blessed! But you ask a “believer” in Messiah/ a Christian and they will make a sour face and tell you “so, so....” “The devil this and the devil that...” and then they will give a deep sigh from a heavy heart. Could it be that we have missed Thanksgiving because we have missed FAITH?
But without faith it is impossible to please and be satisfactory to Him. For whoever would come near to God must [necessarily] believe that God exists and that He is the rewarder of those who earnestly and diligently seek Him [out]. Hebrews 11:6
Most people grow weary of waiting for His reward and they lose FAITH, thus they become ungrateful! Notice that He did not say when He will release that reward! And what if it is in eternity already? What if the ONLY reward is to rule and reign with Him forever? Would that be worth the wait?
He who overcomes (is victorious), I will grant him to sit beside Me on My throne, as I Myself overcame (was victorious) and sat down beside My Father on His throne. Revelation 3:21
We have been ministering to His Body, to Israel and to the nations since 1990 and we are very thankful for the PRIVILEGE of being used of HIM in YOUR lives! Like Shaul-Paul we can say that we have gone through MUCH hardship in order to obey the High Calling. We are very grateful for each life, ministry, family or nation that has been touched, healed, saved, delivered and transformed as we have sought to obey our Abba, imperfect as we are.

Interpreting Dreams
The Talmud teaches us that the meanings of dreams are all contingent upon the interpreter and interpretation of the dream. Yosef had told the butler and baker of Pharaoh’s court that “Dream interpretations are up to the Lord.” Yet he went ahead and interpreted those two dreams accurately and presciently.

Apparently what he meant by “up to the Lord” was that the one who interprets dreams has to possess some sort of holy intuition, an inner sense of the person whose dream he is interpreting in order to be able to interpret the dream. This inner voice is a gift from the Lord.

This is true in medical matters where some physicians are master diagnosticians and their inner voice leads them to the correct conclusion regarding the nature of a person’s illness. It is also true for psychologists and mental health therapists. An inner voice must guide them as to how to help the troubled person that they see before them.

It is even true for the great decisors of halacha, who many times arrive at their decision after rigorous scholarship but also with unerring intuition as to what the correct solution is to the matter laid before them. Yosef has this intuition within him and therefore he is confident that his interpretation of the dreams of Pharaoh will be accurate and correct.

It is this apparent self-confidence and certainty of spirit that so impresses Pharaoh and thus is the catalyst for Yosef’s meteoric rise to power in Egypt. Pharaoh recognizes this by stating that Yosef possesses God’s spirit within him. Without that spirit, Pharaoh is well aware that his dreams will never be interpreted in a proper light.

We read in Psalms that when the Lord returns the captivity of Zion “we will be as dreamers.” The dream will require interpretation and that interpretation can only come from the returnees to Zion themselves. And in order for that dream to be interpreted correctly, the spirit of Godly holiness and purpose must reside within the interpreters – in this case the dreamers themselves.

God provides the dream but the interpretation is up to us and our ability to fathom God’s wishes is the matter. Every dream – even the dream of Zion restored and rebuilt – is subject to varying interpretations. We who live in current day Israel are well aware that there are not only varying but even conflicting interpretations of what the dream of Zion and Jerusalem truly means.

Holy spirit is required to make sense of the dream and to implement its promise. The Lord presents us with opportunities. What we do with those opportunities is the ultimate measure of our interpretation of the dream. Yosef not only interprets Pharaoh’s dream but he lays out a course of action in order to actualize its promise and opportunity. The healthy intuition born of Jewish experience and tradition can help us arrive at the correct and most meaningful realization or our age old dream of Zion and Jerusalem, peace and holiness.

Shabat shalom.
