Ephraim: Letter 357 (the sound of the day)

Can we do תפילות prayers for:

Ephraim & Rimona Frank?

So that through them The האור Lightרפואה The Healing and The ואהבה Love of ישועת יהוה Yeshuath YHWH may come back to הארץ The Land of Israel?

Shalom Fellow Israelite,
On the sixth day Elohim created a more complex form of nephesh chaya (living soul), than He had done hitherto.  These living beings were permeated with instincts and learning capabilities that could respond to discipline, or training, by yet another species, man, who was the last on the list of creation.  Unlike those who reproduce by oviposition (egg-depositing), these sixth day creatures, which have to carry their young in their own bodies for a term, would be reproducing in smaller numbers.  They would also depend for their survival upon a more sophisticated eco-system.

To the “Seat of Mercy”
Here’s a true story worth repeating. It reminds us that Teshuva, what the world calls repentance, is not just a verb. It’s a destination! It’s also a relationship!

It was after Kol Nidre on Yom Kippur night, the holiest time of the year, two years ago. One of the congregants, tugged on my Kittle insisting he had a story he needed to tell. The story begins fifteen years earlier in a New York area suburb. This man tells me his daughter was getting engaged in Florida and so he and his daughters and other family members traveled with him to celebrate. Only his wife remained back home to care for the grandchildren. While they were away, a knock came to the door and three men with hoods brandishing weapons forced their way into the house. They threatened his wife and pushed her around and made her open the safe from which they took all her jewelry and many thousands of dollars-worth of valuables. Afterward they handcuffed her to the banister. They left and were never caught.

Parshas Vayeilech
Long Way Back
The parsha of Vayelech is the parsha that contains the smallest number of verses – only thirty – of any other parsha in the Torah. It also is the parsha that usually coincides with Shabat Shuva, the holy Shabat between Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur. The words of the parsha are part of the last testament of Moshe uttered on the day of his passing from this earth.

Spiritual Impressions
I know what they will do by how they behave right now, even before they enter the land I promised to them. (Devarim 31:21)

That must have come as good news for Moshe Rabbeinu. “You’re going to die,” God was essentially telling him, “but don’t worry, everything you worked so hard to achieve with this people is going to go down the tubes once you’re gone.” Nothing like leaving this world on a good note, eh?

BS"D KNOW YOUR BIBLE: Isaiah 43-44
Study Notes by Avraham ben Yaakov

ISAIAH CHAPTER 43

The end of the previous section (Is. 42:22-25) warned that because of the people's sins God would pour out His anger upon them, sending war. But the new section that opens with the first verse in our present chapter immediately promises that God will nevertheless redeem them.

"When you pass through the WATERS, I am with you… when you walk through FIRE, you shall not be burned…" (v 2). The "waters" refer to the Red Sea (Targum, Rashi ad loc.). Just as God split the waters of the sea in order to save Israel from the Egyptians, so He will save them from the "fire" in time to come. "'For behold the day is coming, burning like an oven' (Malachi 3:19), and on that day I shall take the sun out of its sheath to burn up the wicked, but you will not be burned" (Rashi on v 2).
