Our last book has now been translated into English and Dutch now! It is a strong prophetic message that sheds light on the rise of Islam and the solution HaShem has planned to fight it.

We are at the dawn of the 21st century, 2,000 years after the coming of our Master Yeshua and the world is on the road to ruin. While the Church should be strong after these centuries of practice, we witness the rise of a conquering religion, entering with power in all the civilized Christian countries to subjugate and submit men and women to an iron yoke. What are the reasons for this spiritual war and why does G-d allow Islam to conquer the Western world? What are the secret agreements concluded by our governments to give access to mass immigration for Muslims in Europe and in the United States? We will try to answer these questions in part, in this study based on the sacred texts of the Word of G-d and certain Jewish sources. Buy Now

A very interesting comment from one member of the Yeshiva:
"This past weekend when I was meditating, the L-rd showed me something---not a profound revelation mind you, just a continuation of what He's been showing me concerning the House of Judah---I correlate it to 2 Corinthians 3:3 clearly you are an epistle of Christ, ministered by us, written not with ink but by the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of flesh, that is, of the heart.

Judah is not just the keeper of the Oracles of G-d, they are not just leader in the things of G-d; He has made them a "living epistle"---His book on display, so to speak. Again, Judah, the elder brother has been leading the way. This living epistle has been and continues to be a visual, living depiction of His eternal plan set in the midst of man for all to see. Through obedience to the practice and keeping of the annual feasts, Shabbat, Torah, they continually and symbolically depict His redemption, death, burial, resurrection, infilling, ingathering, forgiveness, light, eternity through openly keeping His commandments! This "epistle" has been on display for centuries, as a testimony, but sadly, man has not seen and has openly condemned, criticized, ridiculed, tried to destroy and has oft times refused to receive this wonderful display of HaShem's faithfulness. His awesome plan truly on display every day for those who have eyes to see and ears to hear and a heart to receive what has been written and given. I pray that all would see, but especially the House of Israel/Ephraim as the tribes make their return. I thank G-d for putting on display through Judah, in the keeping of His appointed feasts, His eternal plan and that He has given me eyes to see!! "
You have two possibilities to study: Complete training with graduation or Personal enrichment.
The Complete training will allow those who want to teach Torah to be part of our network of Torah teachers, who desire to start a Yeshiva in their home or at their kehila. Sukkat David will offer help to those who want to initiate Torah study groups.

Take the opportunity to study Torah starting with the highly prophetic Book of Genesis. Torah is the key for the end times; everything has been written in it. We just need to dive into it and receive tremendous revelations on Yeshua and His plan for our lives.
From the beginning of the messianic calling of the first Patriarch, the Torah teaches us that faith is the key to salvation. Grace also has been present since the beginning.
The foundations are laid from the first Book of the Bible, to help us understand the perfect plan of salvation that G-d has for mankind. If one doesn't study the foundations of this plan a great part of the Revelation is lost, notably, the Revelation of Messiah Yeshua.
Receiving Him in our heart as Savior and Master is one thing, one first necessary step for our salvation, but our path doesn't stop there. After Pesach (salvation by grace), we must head to the Festival celebrated in honor of HaShem, "three days walk" after the reception of the Torah: Shavuot. Avraham saw the L-rd, and the story of his life and of his descendents reveals His Presence, even from the beginning.
The same way we have received the Savior in our hearts, it is now about receiving His Torah engraved in our hearts, even as proclaimed by the prophets in Jeremiah 31:31. True new birth takes place by the action of the Ruach HaKodesh, who circumcises our hearts to be able to walk according to the criteria of holiness of Elohim.

But in order to be able to walk in these commandements, under Yeshua's yoke, we need to know the Word. When did G-d speak, before the eyes and to the ears of all, with the sound of thunder, setting ablaze an entire mountain? The answer is obvious: the Creator of the universe came to reveal His heart at Mount Sinai, a place that didn't belong to anyone, and that was open freely to all those who wanted to drink the waters of life.
Yeshua manifested Himself on that day at Mount Sinai, but only Moshe could see Him. Moshe's skin shone so intensely that he covered it with a veil. He shone from the initial Light of Creation: the Light of Messiah. He is the PURPOSE of the Torah; He fills us with His love and calls us to follow Him, to prepare a heavenly Bride.

He left us these words: John 5:45-47 But don't think that it is I who will be your accuser before the Father. Do you know who will accuse you? Moshe, the very one you have counted on! For if you really believed Moshe, you would believe me; because it was about me that he wrote. But if you don't believe what he wrote, how are you going to believe what I say?

Indeed, if we don't believe the Torah of Moshe, how will we believe the words of Yeshua? They are the same, only revealed to our understanding, because the veil was lifted.

By studying the Torah, our intimate knowledge and revelation of Yeshua grows.
Don't stay at the stage of Pesach and salvation by grace; move on to the stage of priesthood! He is preparing the Kingdom of priests for the Glory of G-d the Father!

Coming out of Egypt was only the first step on the road to Redemption. A longer road with many steps will be necessary in order to know the G-d of Avraham, Yitzchak and Yaakov.

As they journey out of Egypt, Pharaoh will send a strong army against the Jewish people and G-d will again perform mind boggling miracles. Fear will grab the Bneh Israel through a lack of assurance concerning their freshly obtained freedom. Then, a bursting demonstration of G-d's power occurs, the Red Sea opens, swallowing up the enemies and previous masters of the Hebrews; the truth lies in front of them through the dead corpses of the Egyptians who had greatly oppressed them. They are free!

Freedom is sometimes hard to perceive. One needs to learn how to walk free; it requires an education and a total change of thinking. The Hebrews will have to learn how to live with this new experience. They are journeying toward a celebratory Feast for Adonai, but as to the nature of it, they are unsure.

Moshe will sing this wonderful song, a part of which is still sealed and won't be revealed before the Messianic era, that will usher in full deliverance and salvation. A prophetic anointing fell on the children of Israel that day, united together in song, as shown in the following verse:

Then Moshe and the people of Israel sang (singular and future) in the Hebrew, yashir, יָשִׁיר, a song to Adonai: I will sing to Adonai, for he is highly exalted: the horse and its rider he threw in the sea. Exodus 15:1

The Midrash speaks of fifty miracles being fulfilled at the Red Sea. It was a fantastic adventure and the children of Israel saw and tasted both divine protection and the anointing. They didn't want to leave this shore, the witness of G-d's majesty, but Moshe "had them leave" (Exodus 15:22) the Yam Suf for the desert (Shur), to walk three days towards Marah without water.

Marah, the next step: bitterness. The lack of water causes the children of Israel to complain even as they arrive at Marah, where the only available water to drink is bitter and undrinkable.

After being set free from slavery, a necessary step in order to serve G-d, the people are tested by their basic needs: thirst and hunger. Since man has lost his position in the Gan Eden, he must provide for his physical needs, and the fear generated by this struggle for life is probably the strongest part in man which stands against obedience to G-d.

In the mouth of Yeshua this warning will become a direct commandment: the Feast they are to celebrate won't tolerate any compromise, and their renewal must go through the mastering of this ancestral fear of lacking:

No one can be slave to two masters; for he will either hate the first and love the second, or scorn the second and be loyal to the first. You can't be a slave to both God and money. "Therefore, I tell you, don't worry about your life - what you will eat or drink; or about your body - what you will wear. Isn't life more than food and the body more than clothing? "So don't be anxious, asking, 'What will we eat?, ''What will we drink?' or 'How will we be clothed?' For it is the pagans who set their hearts on all these things. Your heavenly Father knows you need them all. But seek first his Kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Matthew 6:24-25; 31-33

The lack of water symbolically represents their thirst for G-d's Word, a bitter frustration and longing hope. It is to this point that G-d desires to draw His children, to have them long not only for the miracles, but for His presence. They are exhausted, having walked for three days and the undrinkable water brings despair.

Instead of praying they complain and G-d will perform yet another sign to have them understand.

He is going to "teach" a piece of wood to Moshe, "vayorehu

וַיּוֹרֵהוּ" in Hebrew. "I am going to teach you something you ignore. You believe that you must use a sweet plant to make the water drinkable. I am going to show you that I soften the bitter with a bitter wood".

G-d will teach Moshe that He can soften bitterness with bitterness and that from the bitter can come the soft and that from a difficult situation will come good:

Dear friends, don't regard as strange the fiery ordeal occurring among you to test you, as if something extraordinary were happening to you. Furthermore, we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called in accordance with his purpose. 1 Peter 4:12, Romans 8:28

The people of Israel are on their way to celebrate a Feast for Adonai, and preparation is necessary..."

Kedem' herbs are 100% natural and kosher, non tested on animals
The use of medicinal herbs of the Judaea Desert is an ancient tradition, which was well known throughout the Roman Empire and elsewhere, notably.
In the Roman Empire, the Land of Israel was a source of various medicinal and cosmetic balms. Notably, there are a particularly large number of medicinal plants in the Land of Israel, due to its geographical location in a junction of three continents, and due to a harsh desert climate in various regions, which requires plants to possess a large arsenal of compounds for self-protection and preservation. The scarcity of rain improves the quality of oil obtained from plants growing in the region.
Herbs Of Kedem was established in 1996 and focuses on 100% natural therapy products, using natural herbs, primarily from the Judaea Desert.

Shalom Fellow Israelite,

Last week's Parasha was called "Bo," a word that most English translations render as "Go." However, "bo" is actually a command form of "come." If I were to ask you to come along with me to go somewhere, I would call out: "Bo!" Perhaps what YHVH was suggesting to Moses, in choosing this particular word here (and in several of the other instances when He sent him to Pharaoh), was that He Himself was going to Pharaoh and wanted His servant to accompany Him. Knowing that YHVH was actually the one addressing Egypt's king would certainly have given Moses a great sense of security.

At that particular encounter, YHVH continued to speak saying: "I have hardened his [Pharaoh's] heart and the hearts of his servants, that I may show these signs of Mine before him" (Exodus 10:1 emphases added). Elohim was telling Moses that although He was taking him along 'for the ride,' everything that was going to take place would be of Him and from Him. Over and over again YHVH reminds His people that He brought them out of Egypt. He never says, "Remember when Moses brought you out of bondage." Through Moses and Aaron YHVH spoke to Pharaoh in first-person: "How long will you refuse to humble yourself before Me? Let My people go, that they may serve Me" (Exodus 10:1 Emphases added).

In that Parasha, as well as in the one for this week, there are very important lessons for us to learn about our own spiritual exodus out of bondage to "sin and death," and how the Father provided a Lamb, so that "light" would shine in our tents while the rest of the world is in tangible (feel-able) darkness.

Along with these two Torah Parashot, we should also study Paul's commentary in Romans chapters 5 and 6, where he explains how YHVH redeemed and saved His people from slavery and bondage to the "kingdom of darkness."

In dealing with this topic Paul's 'argument,' aside from being founded on the intimate knowledge that he had of his Elohim and Messiah, is based upon the Torah laws that govern redemption and were fulfilled in Yeshua's death, burial, and resurrection. Had YHVH not acted sovereignly, there would have been no possibility for man to extricate himself from the bondage to Satan's kingdom. YHVH, through fulfilling the legal requirements for "atonement," enabled mankind to receive the grace to be justified and reconciled to Himself. If it were not for the Torah's instructions, we would not even begin to understand and know the love, mercy, and justice of the Elohim of the Hebrews. The Israelites found grace when YHVH delivered them out of Egypt, as YHVH Himself declares: "Thus says YHVH: 'The people who survived the sword found grace in the wilderness -- Israel, when I went to give him rest'" (Jeremiah 31:2). The mercy or grace of the Father is always part of His justice.

YHVH's laws are active throughout the Torah, but 'behind the scenes' of those rulings is revealed His heart toward His people; for example, Pharaoh and his firstborn had the power to keep Israel under their authority as long as Israel was in their kingdom. The only way that YHVH could remove their influence was to put Egypt's firstborn to death.

He could have also destined the king to the same fate, but in order for this to remain a legal transaction YHVH had to extract "permission" from him to let His people go. Remember, Joseph needed the consent of his boss in order for his family to have land and property in Egypt. This verbal contract could not be broken without both parties' mutual agreement.

The final execution of YHVH's plan in regards to Pharaoh took place while Israel was hidden under and behind the blood of the lamb (on their doorposts). Thus, as they were receiving grace the law was being fulfilled. Similarly, when Yeshua died on the execution stake, YHVH judicially or legally took away Satan's rights over mankind. "Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it " - in Yeshua's death (Colossians 2:15). YHVH disarmed, that is, removed the principalities and powers' authority to rule and reign over humanity. But then He also had to destroy the armed forces that kept these authorities in power. For the Israelites He accomplished this by having them pass through the Reed Sea in order to annihilate Pharaoh's army in the very same place. The (spiritual) counterpart in our life is water immersion (see Romans chapter 6:3-4). Our acceptance of redemption through the blood of the lamb has to be confirmed by being immersed in water (passing through the proverbial Reed Sea).

When our ancestors did likewise and arrived on the other side, they turned around and watched the waters cover and destroy their enemy's army and then sang the Song of Moses (see Exodus 15: 2-19). Upon emerging out of the water every believer should follow suite, by either singing or reading the same Song. If you have never done this, then this week's Parasha gives you the opportunity to reflect back on your immersion and recount this great and awesome act of the Elohim of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. "They sing the song of Moses, the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying: "Great and marvelous are Your works…(Revelation 15:3).

As mentioned in the beginning, these earth shuttering events were not about Moses or Aaron, YHVH's chosen servants for that time, but about bringing glory to Who was and is the Elohim of the Hebrews.

"So YHVH saved Israel that day out of the hand of the Egyptians, and Israel saw the Egyptians dead on the seashore. Thus Israel saw the great work which YHVH had done in Egypt; so the people feared YHVH, and believed YHVH and His servant Moses" (Exodus 14:30-31).

In regards to the New Covenant "exodus," may we fear YHVH and believe Him and His Servant/Son Yeshua.

Shabbat Shalom,

Ephraim

Emet Ministries
Greetings!

Below is a new short article about some of the changes we go through as we grow spiritually. It was teacher Joe Snipes, of Gates to Zion Ministries, that first mentioned the "terrible twos" in a message several years ago. That thought has stuck with me ever since. Lately, I have been learning many lessons and growing out of some areas in my own life. I wrote this to share with you a little about that journey.

Be blessed,

Daniel Rendelman

The Terrible Twos of Spiritual Growth

by Daniel Rendelman

As a father of five children, all under the age of twelve years, I definitely know what its like to for a child to go through the "terrible twos." To be honest, this is a phase of childhood development that I would like to forget!

For some reason, between the age of 2 and 4 many children begin to act crazy. That cuddly baby is now becoming a toddler and all of sudden learns that throwing a temper tantrum is a way to get attention. We've all seen how the terrible twos can be - happy one minute and then bursting with tears the next minute. Not fun.

Sometimes kids going through the terrible twos simply shout "NO" to everything that is asked. Others bite, hit, or refuse to be potty trained. All in all, when the twos are terrible, its not a fun time for the parent or the child. Why is this occuring? Well, mostly because the child is learning that the world does not revolve around his or her wants. Around two years of age, a child becomes more keenly aware of her surroundings and her desires. When that kid doesn't get what it wants, the child begins to act loudly and aggresivelly in order to manipulate and control the situation. Those little ankle-biters are smarter than we think!

In a similar fashion we go through spiritual terrible twos as well. How? That's simple. We face the same deilma as a toddler does as we are being conformed into YHWH's image and being changed from "glory TO glory." Here's a passage to consider, "But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of YHWH, are changed into the same image from glory TO glory, even as by the Spirit of YHWH," 2 Corinthians 3:18. Did you see the terrible "TO" in this verse? This shows that the spiritual life is all about being changed from one type of glory to another. We have our own selfish glory that first only wants to seek its own pleasure. We glory in our wants. We glory in our accomplishments. We glory in our education. We glory in our homes and belongings. We glory in our knowledge. We glory in our whatever. This type of self-centered glory must change to focus not on whom we are or what we have BUT who Y'shua is in us. This is called being changed from "glory TO glory" and it's not necessarily a fun experience.

Our flesh and our mind are used to life that is centered on self. We are accustomed to pleasing self first and then others. When we go through the spiritual terrible twos we change as we begin to put others first or lay down our own personal desires and agendas. It's something we all must constantly go through as we move towards maturity with the Messiah.

The "terrible twos" from one type of selfish glory to a spiritual self-less glory can be stressful and strenuous process. There is no one time prayer that happens and then "poof" we are made glorious and righteous. Being changed into his image is an ongoing daily experience that causes us to daily lay down our selfish ways and accept the ways of love. And then just when one area is conquered another will quickly pop up to be dealt with.

Consider this story...there was once a group of tourists visiting a picturesque village who walked by an old man sitting beside a fence. In a rather patronizing way, one tourist asked, "Were any great men born in this village?" The old man replied, "Nope, only babies." A frothy question brought a profound answer. Growth takes time. But, growth can not be equated with time. Just because a person has been born again for 20 years doesn't mean that they have grown in their faith and walking in spiritual maturity. There are many seasoned saints that are stuck in their own "terrible twos" and they don't seem to want to move on. Are there areas in your life that you refuse to submit to the Messiah?

The spiritual terrible twos can manifest in many ways.

People can be adamant about their doctrine and not willing to change - terrible twos are awfully opinionated. Other people can be totally self-centered and think that only their needs or only their problems matter - that's a temper tantrum just waiting to happen. And even some people just struggle with accepting the love of YHWH - cranky, cranky, cranky.

So, how do you know WHEN you are in the midst of being changed from "glory TO glory?" That answer is a simple - "always." We never exactly arrive. Once we get one part of our lives figured out another area pops up in rebellion. The secret is to navigate through the terrible twos without staying stagnant in any certain area of offense or hurting people in the process.

As with childhood, it's natural to experience times of struggle. That's just the "TO" phase from glory to glory. The author of Romans said that this process is actually what reveals the righteousness f our Heavenly Father. "For in it the righteousness of YHWH is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, "but the righteous man shall live by faith," Romans 1:17. As we go from faith TO faith and glory TO glory we actually manifest the power of Heaven here on earth.

Take Peter, or "Kefa" in Hebrew, for example. He quickly accepts the Messiah and begins to literally follow after Him. Then in the Newer Testament we see him falling and flailing and making a mess of himself. One time Peter says that he believes Y'shua is the Messiah and then minutes later the Messiah is rebuking the enemy from working through Peter. Looks like a terrible two tantrum to me. Yet, Kefa made it through these times of testing. He grew spiritually and became a leader and author of two books in the Bible. He was changed from glory TO glory and from faith TO faith. How about you? Which areas in your life are you struggling to overcome? How does being in the spiritual terrible twos allow your faith to grow and reveal the righteousness of YHWH?

The truth is that YHWH loves us TOO much to leave us as we currently are. He wants us to press forward and reveal His love to the world. The terrible twos might not be fun but they do lead to a type of maturity that is greatly needed in the body of Messiah. As you go through this phase be confident that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Messiah. Trust Him to work in you and through you for the good.

More adults in North America will die this year of congestive heart disease. Each year millions are caught off guard as this silent killer lurks painlessly, unseen in the body, until it strikes as a major heart attack. Doctors describe this illness as "blockages in the blood vessels and arteries that prevent blood from flowing properly". Physicians tell us that the nation's death rate would drastically decrease, if we would just make our heart's health a priority. We would be "heart healthy", if we'd just eat healthy foods, exercise daily, and have regular visits with our family doctor. Spiritually, our condition is not much better, for we are "sin sick".

The Spirit cannot flow properly in our lives because of sinful "blockages" of hypocrisy, disobedience, and disrespect. Our prayers bounce off the ceiling because of the "insincerity" of our heart. We've not heeded the words of wisdom, "Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life." - Mishlei / Proverbs, chapter 4.

The word "heart" appears more than 900 times throughout the Scriptures and is nearly always the Hebrew term "lev." This phrase literally means, "feelings, emotions, will, intellect, the center of our thoughts." Our heart is the seat of emotions within us that prompts us to do what we do. It is from our heart that we get excited about Elohim, and it is from our heart that we rebel against him. "The backslider in heart shall be filled with his own ways: and a good man shall be satisfied from himself." - Mishlei / Proverbs, chapter 14 wrote Solomon, of blessed memory.

Our heart directs our actions before we speak or do something. Therefore, as we strive to live a life that is pleasing to the Almighty, it is necessary to have regular heart "check ups." We need to regularly search our motives and intentions, to ensure that our heart is healthy. Our examination doesn't need to be about our actions, but the reasons behind the actions. We don't necessarily need to worry about an occasional slipping into sin. But, we should be concerned about continued habits and attitudes. A person's arteries don't get clogged from one fatty meal; it takes years of neglecting exercise and many times of eating the wrong food. "Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living Elohim, but exhort one another daily, while it is called today, lest any of you be hardened though the deceitfulness of sin. For we are made partakers of Messiah, if we hold the beginning of our confidence steadfast unto the end; while it is said, Today if you will hear his voice, harden not your hearts, as in the provocation" -- Ivrim / Hebrews 3: 12-13.

The story is told of a wise old rabbi named Moshe, who in the 1930s fled his native land of Germany. He sold all his assets and converted it to gold and then, had 5 sets of solid gold false teeth made. He kept his teeth hidden in his pants' pocket until he needed them.

When he arrived in New York the customs official was perplexed as to why anybody would have 5 sets of gold teeth. So Moshe pulled out his teeth and explained.

"We Orthodox Jews have two separate sets of dishes for meat products and dairy products, but I am so kosher and religious I also have separate sets of teeth."

The customs official shook his head and said, "Well that accounts for two sets of teeth. What about the other three?"

Moshe then said "Vell, us very religious Orthodox Jews use separate dishes for Passover, but I am so religious I have separate teeth, one for meat and one for dairy food.

The customs official slapped his head and then said, "You must be a very religious man with separate teeth for food and dairy products and likewise for Passover. That accounts for four sets of teeth. What about the fifth set?"

"Vell to tell you the truth, once in a while I like a ham sandwich."

It seems this rabbi has a little problem when it comes to Torah observance. Sure, he separates his milk and meat, but he also eats unclean foods. He is holy and reverent in front of others, but he lets his devotion slide when no one is watching. He doesn't know, but his pork eating is evidence of a 'heart' problem. Continued feasting on sinfulness leads to spiritual heart disease. Unfortunately, we are much like this Rabbi.

We all have some areas of obedience where we could be more devoted. Yet, most of the time, we ignore these sinful problems. We hide them in our pockets until the right time to sneak away and enjoy. Who likes to control their thoughts anyway? Who wants to show respect to those in spiritual authority? Who doesn't stretch the truth, just a little? We reason that a little sin, here and there, doesn't count against us, if we know the Hebrew Names or keep the Biblical Sabbath. Sadly, we have heart disease. Our arteries are clogged with some wicked actions and bad thoughts.

We must guard our heart from becoming bored, complacent, or stubborn. It is so easy to go through the motions of obedience and forget why we do what we do. Many times we focus so much on the details of how to "properly" fulfill a commandment that we forget the simple reason for obedience, to draw near to YHWH.

This is why, in Mishlei / Proverbs, chapter 4, the scriptures say to "Keep thy heart with all diligence." We need to be watchmen, who are on the lookout for false concepts concerning the mitzvot (commandments). One such deception that easily slips into our heart is the idea that the Creator wants us to obey Him. We've allowed the mitzvot mindset to harden our hearts into believing that YHWH wants us to just obey the miztvot. However doing the right actions is not the pathway to pleasing the Almighty Elohim. We don't earn our place into heaven, no matter how Torah-observant we are. Our spiritual standing is not based on us memorizing the worship service, so the "amen" is said at just the right time.

Somehow, we have come to believe that when YHWH looks down from heaven upon us, that He measures our Torah obedience on a scale. We reason that, if we are doing Torah then, YHWH honors us, and we are ok. We've come to believe, write in our emails, and even tell others that YHWH wants us to be Torah-observant. We'll go to heaven, we'll be happy on earth, and life will be just fine. However, this is just not true.

When YHWH looks from heaven, He is not looking in judgment towards our Torah obedience ONLY. He does not desire us to be robots, who blindly obey to just obey; He did give to us free will! Plainly, YHWH doesn't want our obedience. He doesn't really want us to keep kosher or speak Hebrew. What YHWH wants is us, in totality. He wants our life. Totally. Fully. YHWH wants our heart, our soul, and our devotion. He doesn't need our service.

Likewise, He doesn't get a thrill from our obedience when He doesn't have our heart. Sure, we can learn the mitzvot. We can memorize the 613 commandments, we can keep the Noachide laws, and we can quote the Ten Commandments. But if we don't totally give our life to Him then, all the good works we do are just that. Good works and nothing else! It isn't the actions that earn us points in heaven; it is our heart condition that is most important. What pleases Him is the fact that our souls and very life have been yielded to the Almighty. YHWH wants us to submit our life totally to Him. That is the essential difference between obeying and submitting.

From our love of YHWH should come our submission to the mitzvot. The commandments are a means to an end, and not the end itself. Let's not get the cart before the horse by stressing obedience over submission. YHWH wants us to submit our life to Him; to love Him with all of our heart, soul, mind, and strength. Obedience to the Torah should flow freely from the heart. Saints should obey in order to please the Almighty because we love Him. We should submit to Him before we try to obey anything. "Come near to Elohim and He will come near to you," reads the book of Ya'acov/James from the Messianic writings.

Like a wife that prepares a special meal of her husband's favorite foods, we too should seek to please Him through our deeds. Our submission to the Torah, is how we show that we love Him. "If you love me, keep the mitzvot," said the Messiah in Yochannan / John 14: 15. Love of YHWH leads us to submit to the Torah and commit our life fully to Him. In turn, this love will cause us to go beyond what is stated in the Torah. Love will cause believers to go beyond the letter of the Law to grasp the Spirit of the Law. From a heart of love and devotion, we should look beyond what is required of us, to do what the Creator desires. He requires our lives to be devoted to Him. He desires us to submit to Him in love. As we fall more and more in love with our Elohim, we will go past wanting to only obey the stated commandments, grasping the soul and purpose of Torah. To understand this concept, let's consider the parable of a farmer and his two sons.

An elderly farmer had two grown sons that loved him very much. These brothers worked vigorously in their father's fields. Each year, the land would reap a tremendous harvest. The farm harvested incredible amounts of large and tasty produce, much more than the small family needed.

One day, while the Father was talking with his sons about how to irrigate the land, he mentioned his desire to share the extra produce with the poor. The idea was a fleeting thought, a half-sentence, spoken in the middle of a technical discussion about water lines and germination. Nothing more was made of the father's suggestion and the conversation ended soon after. The younger son was ready to finish up the day's work so he could relax and rest. However, Dad's comment peaked the interest of the older son. He reasoned, "Why should all the produce go to waste, when there were hungry people in their town?"

As the moon hung brightly in the night sky and tired weary heads fell softly on gentle pillows, the firstborn of the father was busy making plans. No, he wasn't working on new fertilization techniques nor ways to increase plant production. He was sitting up in his bed brainstorming ideas on how to distribute the family's food surplus to the poor. He understood his father's desires, including the unstated. He was going to do all in his power to satisfy his father's wish. He knew what was on his father's mind. He was going to please him, even if it took extra work. To the younger brother, the suggestion was just that, a suggestion, and nothing more. However to the oldest son, the father's idea was an indication of something greater. It was an inspiration.

Which of these two sons loves their Dad the most? Is it the youngest son who faithfully does exactly what the father says? Or is the devotion of the elder son greater? Which son does what is required, to know and fulfill the heart's desires of his father?

The meaning of this parable can be discerned as we consider this story in comparison to relationship with our Heavenly Father YHWH. We can be like the youngest son who does only what is stated in the Torah. Or we can act like the elder son who deducted what was on the Father's mind and tried to please Him. We can do exactly what the Torah says in vain repetition. Or we can give our heart to Him; do what He commands, and even more. This "even more" is brought about as we discern the purpose behind our actions.

Our Heavenly Father wants us to be a people "set apart". This we accomplish through obeying the mitzvot and learning the principles behind the mitzvoth. We can't achieve full union with our Father through the mitzvot alone. We must totally give our life to Him and intensify our efforts toward His glorious end result of being like Him. King David understood this as he wrote, "I will delight in your mitzvot," -- Tehillim / Psalm 119: 24.

The truth is that YHWH is not satisfied in the deeds alone. He looks to the condition of the heart behind the deeds. He doesn't want us to worship our actions. He wants us to worship Him. He wants us to love him with all that we are. Before we obey, He wants us to question our actions. What is the reason behind our actions? How healthy is our heart? When we preach obedience to the Torah we fall short of the full and true message of the Torah. YHWH wants Torah-submission not Torah-observance.

Our Master Rabbi Yahshua often spoke about the dangers of this type of attitude. There were those who obeyed the mitzvot openly, yet had not given their whole heart to YHWH. They had obedience, but not submission. They could sing the Shema perfectly in Hebrew, but their lives were not submitted to the one about whom they were singing. Yahshua is quoted by both Matthew and Mark, describing these people:

"This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me," Mattitiyahu/Matthew 15:8 "He answered and said unto them, Well hath Esaias prophesied of you hypocrites, as it is written, This people honoureth me with their lips, but their heart is far from me," Markus / Mark 7:6

Moschiach compared others to whitewashed tombs that were beautiful on the outside but held death and decay on the inside.

"Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are like unto whited sepulchres, which indeed appear beautiful outward, but are within full of dead men's bones, and of all uncleanness," Mattitiyahu / Matthew, chapter 23:27

"But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the man. For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies," -- Mattitiyahu / Matthew 15: 18-19. Yes, the Torah is important. The Torah is mankind's blueprint for living. We do reap what we sow. We are blessed, if we obey and cursed, if we disobey. YHWH will reward our actions and we should be in pursuit of obedience. But, when we obey, to just obey, we become like trained animals that do what their master commands to earn a treat.

When we view our actions through the bifocals of blessing and cursing, the end result is minimizing the Torah into a book of do's and don'ts. Let's not do this. Don't follow the Torah only to get something. Don't do the mitzvoth merely to earn protection during tribulation, or a better spot in heaven. This type of living is very dangerous. We can never earn what our Father freely gives.

As our faith grows and we mature in this walk, we can move from doing the specified to searching for the implied. Yahshua expounded upon this idea with the issue of adultery. The Torah commands that we should not commit adultery. Yahshua though, raised this mitzvah to a more-complete guideline when He said, "Whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart," Mattitiyahu - Matthew 5:28.

When we are submitted, we do what is required, and recognize and do, what YHWH desires. One reason for the Moshiach's coming, was to bring Yisra'el back to the heart of the Torah. It is one thing not to physically commit a sin, while it is another to walk in purity. The difference is the condition of the heart.

If we don't guard our heart, we'll soon begin to doubt our actions and become trapped by doing only what is required of us. There are those in this movement that use the excuse that they will do "only what is required in the Torah" before they move on in their faith. These people won't follow traditions like lighting Shabbat candles because the "Torah doesn't command it." And they equate not working on the Sabbath to spending a day in the Dentist's waiting room. These attitudes are dangerous because of how they clog our heart.

Again, YHWH doesn't want just our actions. He wants our life. He wants us. The Scriptures have an answer for those who would question what is required of believers. "Yisrael what does YHWH your Elohim require of you, but to fear YHWH your Elohim, to walk in all his ways, and to love him, and to serve YHWH your Elohim with all your heart and with all your soul," - Devarim / Deuteronomy 10:12. Notice that walking in his way, observing the mitzvoth, and loving YHWH with all of the heart are equal. What does YHWH require? He requires all that we are.

"What does YHWH require of you, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your Elohim," -- Mica'yah / Micah 6:8. If our heart's condition is right before YHWH, it is as if we are obeying all of the miztvot, because we will be obeying the mitzvoth. Yahshua said, "'You shall love the YHWH your Elohim with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets," - Mattitiyahu / Matthew 22:38-40. This verse corresponds with the previous pasuk (passage) in Micah.

When we love YHWH with all our heart, we will do justly. When we love Him with all of our soul, we will view others in compassion and so we will love mercy. And when we love Him with all of our mind, we will keep our mind upon Him and walk humbly in His Spirit. The Zohar says, "when a man's love to the Holy One is roused, the "right hand" is moved only by a threefold impulse, by "heart", "soul", and "might", for it does not say, "with all thy heart or with all thy soul", etc., but "and with all thy soul", etc.: all three are essential and necessary. Then does the Holy One respond and stir up His Right Hand towards that man." YHWH wants our heart. He wants all of us. His desire is for His people to submit to His will for their lives. This will is revealed throughout the Torah. To obey the Torah without giving our heart to YHWH is great loss. To submit to the Almighty and seek to walk in obedience to the Torah is great gain.

Parshas Beshalach

The Great Song
The great song of Moshe and of Israel forms the centerpiece of this week’s parsha. The song was not a one-off historical event. It has remained a part of the morning services of the synagogue prayers of Jews for millennia.

The song concentrates on God’s power, on Israel’s always miraculous survival and on the perfidious behavior of the wicked enemies of the Jewish people. God’s power and greatness is seen in the salvation of Israel from its enemies, strong as they may be or have been. This song of Moshe forms one of the bookends of the story of the Jewish people.

The other bookend is the second song of Moshe – this time Moshe alone is the performer – in the parsha of Haazinu at the conclusion of the Book of Dvarim. That song also reiterates the theme of this earlier song relating to God’s power and omnipotence, the survival of the Jewish people against all odds, and the judgments to be rendered against the enemies of the Jewish people.

So the Torah at the beginning of the narrative of Israel’s sojourn in the Sinai desert and at the end of that forty year period sings the same song, albeit with different words and melody. But the content and message of the song has remained the same. This can also be said regarding all of Jewish history – it is the same song that has sustained us for these many generations though the words and melody may no longer be exactly the same throughout this long period of time and through our varied experiences.

Moshe instructs the Jewish people to learn and always remember the song of Haazinu. It is the song of the future redemption of Israel, the song that will light the way for Jews in dark and dangerous times. So why is it that the song that Jews know best, the one that we recite seven times every week of our lives is the first song of Moshe and Israel at the salvation of God at Yam Suf?

The lesson here is obvious though often overlooked. The second song of Moshe has little credence if not for the first song at the Yam Suf. Once having experienced miraculous redemption, it is possible to believe firmly that it will happen once more. We are taught in the Torah that in the future redemption “you will be shown wondrous events just as it was in the days of the Exodus from Egypt.” That is why the commandments of the Torah, the Shabat itself and all the holidays are classified and named as being a memory aid to the Exodus from Egypt.

Those who cannot remember the past rarely have lasting hope for their future. The song of Moshe and Israel at the Yam Suf validates all later Jewish experiences, goals and hopes. It is a constant reminder of God’s omnipotence and of His guarantee to us of Jewish survival and ultimate triumph over evil and wickedness. This Shabat is one of “shira” – song – because, again, it validates and confirms all Jewish songs throughout the ages.

The Psalmist teaches us that at the time of the final redemption “then our tongues will be filled with song.” The melody and words may be new to us then but the message will certainly be grounded in the teachings of Moshe and Israel in the song of this week’s parsha.
