What do the commentators tell us about Pharaoh’s hardened heart? Haftarah: Jeremiah, from whose prophecies this haftarah is taken, was one of those Israelites who survived the Babylonian exile living in Egypt. In this haftarah, he preaches powerfully against the Egyptians, who he predicts will be punished by God as they were in the days of Moses: “Fair Egypt will be shamed…Be not dismayed, O Israel,/I will deliver you from far away,/Your folk from their land of captivity.”   Shalom Chaverim!
