Message 1-1-11 VaEra-And I Appeared Exodus 6:2-9:35 Ezekiel 28:25-29:21 Introduction Despite God’s message that they will be redeemed from slavery, the Israelites’ spirits remain crushed. God instructs Moses and Aaron to deliver the Israelites from the land of Egypt. The ten plagues are the most sustained manifestation of Divine wrath since the Flood, way back in Parashah Noach, an awesome display of the power of the Creator. What are we to make of this display of God’s rage? The Haphtarah portion associated with this Torah portion is filled with explicit references to the destruction of the Egyptians. Ezekiel has a vision of God, who tells him, “Turn against Pharaoh, king of Egypt, and prophesy against him,” as Moses once did. The Almighty then proceeds to enumerate a new series of destructions that will befall Egypt for its mistreatment of the Israelites.   Shalom Chaverim!
