Shalom Chaverim (friends),
This week, after the details of the flood, we are introduced to Nimrod, the builder of the tower of Babel. Here we read of how man attempts to throw off the rule of Elohim and achieve unity and shalom without the Almighty. The symbol of their unity was the tower, and the strength of their unity was their common language. Interestingly enough, John refers to the religious system of Babylon as the "Mother of harlots and of the abominations of the earth" (Rev 17:5). Was Judah exiled to Babylon in order to experience first-hand the horrible folly of idolatry? In Daniel, King Nebuchadnezzar envisions Babylon as a head of gold. But in a later vision, Daniel sees its true character as a bestial lion.
By the end of the parasha, we are introduced to another man who goes the opposite way and ends up at the Mountain of YHWH in Jerusalem. And he is known as the Father of our faith - Abraham.
Choose this day who you will be identified with.
Revelation 18:2 And he cried mightily with a loud voice, saying, "Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and has become a dwelling place of demons, a prison for every foul spirit, and a cage for every unclean and hated bird! 3 "For all the nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication, the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her, and the merchants of the earth have become rich through the abundance of her luxury." 4 And I heard another voice from heaven saying, "Come out of her, my people, lest you share in her sins, and lest you receive of her plagues.
Galatians 3:9 So then those who are of faith are blessed with believing Abraham.
Shabbat Shalom!
Ardelle
