In this week's Torah reading, Chayei Sarah, Sarah dies and Abraham purchases the Cave of Machpela as a burial plot for his wife. Abraham's servant travels to Aram to find a wife for Isaac. Isaac marries Rebecca. Abraham dies.

Recently, I was challenged by a friend to find how many times Eliezer’s name is mentioned in the Torah portion describing this story. To my surprise, his name is not mentioned even once!
