The Purim Feast A person is obligated to drink at Purim until he doesn't know the difference between 'cursed is Homon' and 'blessed is Mordechai'. Talmud, Tractate Megila, 7b. What does this mean? 1. Is there a difference between 'cursed is Homon' and 'blessed is Mordechai'? If so, why should the distinction be blurred? If there is not a distinction between them, why does a person have to drink? 2. Is there any 'mitzva' to indulge in alcohol in order to loose one's intelligent faculties? If sechel is important, why would there be a mitzva to loose it?

We learn in the Midrash: "You provide light for the entire world and yet You command to have a lamp burn continually! We see light through Your light and You say to light lamps! Said Rabbi Meir: Hakadosh Baruch Hu said, 'The lights that Aharon lights are more cherished by me than the lights I have fixed in heaven" (Tanchuma, Tetsaveh, 2).

"They shall make Me a sanctuary" (Exodus 25:8) Adar 1, 5772/February 24, 2012 Rosh Chodesh Adar Pssst! Want some good advice? If you're looking to get a glimpse into how G-d created the world, don't begin by reading Genesis, chapter one. Oh, it's a beautiful description of the first six days of creation and the sabbath that followed. But if you're looking for insight into how G-d did it, and why, that's not the first place to look. The first place to look is in this week's Torah reading of Terumah, (Exodus 25:1-27:19). Parashat Terumah describes the building of the Tabernacle in the wilderness. We are taught by Midrash that the Holy Temple, (and its prototype, the Tabernacle), was in G-d's thought, as it were, even before creation was begun.
